Beginning Classes: Developed for
people new to yoga. Participants
generally stay in beginner classes from
2 months to one year. Beginning yoga
classes teach you the basics of yoga
poses (called asanas), yoga breathing,
and initial stress reduction.
Students generally see an increase in
flexibility and strength in this level
of yoga. It is
important to start with this level of
yoga before proceeding to the next
level.
Intermediate Classes: After
learning the basics in beginning
classes, yoga students progress into
Intermediate classes. You will learn
more challenging asana (poses), sun
salutations, some inversions and more
yoga breathing techniques. Students
generally see an increase in strength,
an increase in flexibility, and a
decrease in perceived stress levels in
this level. Some students remain in
these classes for their entire yoga
career and others move into advanced
yoga classes.
Advanced Classes: Once your
strength and flexibility have increased
and you have learned how to safely
practice the yoga asanas, you can move
into advanced yoga (this generally
happens 6 months to one year after
beginning yoga). In this level of yoga
you will practice challenging poses
including higher level inversions,
deeper twists and balances. You will
learn the different sun salutations and
more breathing techniques. |

Vinyasa: In
this style of yoga, postures or asanas
are connected to one another by a
flowing series of movements called
vinyasa. The synchronization of
movements with breath awakens the
mind-body-soul connection establishing
consistent states of balance, inner
peace, and well-being. Different levels
of vinyasa add more or less challenging
poses in the flowing movements.
Power Yoga: Comes from the same
origin as vinyasa yoga. Power classes
hold poses and move from pose to pose to
build heat. Expect to build strength in
your body in this class.
Relaxation and Gentle classes:
These classes are meant to move slowly
to gently calm your body and mind. Poses
are easy to modify and can be practiced
by beginners and more advanced students
alike.
Kundalini Yoga: This practice
consists of breathwork, postures,
movement, stretching and sound in a
specific sequence for your body’s
benefit. “Sets” are performed that each
have a defined purpose and benefit for
your body. Modifications are given so
everyone can participate. |
